Hope International University, based in Fullerton, California, is a private, Christian university preparing future ministers for their service toward the Church and society.The university is associated with a fellowship of churches commonly known as the “Restoration Movement.” Apart from the main campus at Fullerton, there are satellite facilities located throughout Orange and Riverside counties.The university made its beginning in October 1928, as Pacific Bible Seminary. Alvarado Church of Christ, situated in Los Angeles, was utilized for conducting the initial classes.The seminary moved to the First Christian Church in Long Beach, in 1930. Here, the seminary attained the new name, Pacific Christian College.In 1973, the college moved to its present location in Fullerton. The college attained university status in 1997, and took on the new name of Hope International University.The university gained its first accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, in 1969. It became a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, in 1993.The Fullerton campus occupies about 19 acres of space, encompassing the Pacific Christian College, the School of Professional Studies, and the School of Graduate Studies. Similar certificate programs are offered throughout Southern California through the university’s remote facilities.Some of the major buildings located inside the university campus include the Kenneth Stewart Chapel, the 700 seat Pacific Auditorium, and the Lawson-Fulton Student Center, which serves as a venue for student services and recreation. The Terraces buildings contain the administrative offices, classrooms, and conference facilities.Hope International University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The teacher credentialing program is accredited by the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CLTC) and the Marriage and Family Therapy program is accredited by the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
